This week we’re off to see one of my and Ireland’s favourite actors - Liam Neeson in the thriller ‘Taken’.
An ex-soldier (Liam Neeson) traveling through Europe embarks on a frantic quest to rescue his daughter (Maggie Grace) after the young girl is abducted by slave traders in “District B13″ director Pierre Morel’s contemporary thriller “Taken”. Robert Mark Kamen joins the screenwriting team which also includes Morel and longtime collaborator Luc Besson, who also produces.
Movie starts at 8pm this Thursday 16th October, so meet up in the Cineworld 1st floor cafe bar from 7.30pm, as always the meet up spot will be marked with some PINK balloons.
If you haven’t been to one of our cinema nights before, now is a good time. We meet up in the cafe bar beforehand - see the movie, then go to a nearby bar afterwards for a drink and a chat.
So after many weeks of hitting the Hollywood blockbusters, this week we’re lining up a return trip to the Lighthouse Cinema, for anyone who hasn’t been before - this stylish new cinema is a must! (they also do lovely popcorn)
The Popes Toilet (El Baño del Papa)
This charming and colourful work documents the wavering fortunes of a deprived Uruguayan family at the announcement of a 1988 visit by the Holy Father to their poverty-stricken village of Melo. Scraping together a meagre existence by smuggling contraband on a push-bike from a Brazilian border town, family patriarch Beto - with thinking-cap firmly in place - decides to cash in on the potential flurry of pious activity by building a first-class latrine into which the congregants can pay to relieve themselves.
Movie starts at 8.35pm this Thursday 2nd October, so meet up in the Lighthouse Cinema Cafe from 8pm, as always the meet up spot will be marked with some PINK balloons.
Set during World War II, a story seen through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a concentration camp, whose forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and unexpected consequences.
The movie starts at 7.30pm this Wednesday in Cineworld Cinema (Parnell St), and as usual we meetup 30 mins beforehand (7pm) in the Cineworld 1st Floor Cafe Bar.
The meet up spot will be marked with some PINK balloons, see you there!
If required to choose a seat, just choose somewhere in the middle and we’ll sort out seating in the bar.
This week sees the release of Will Ferrel’s latest comedy ‘Step Brothers’
Step Brothers has received positive reviews in line with some of his best work like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
The movie starts at 8.30pm in Cineworld, with the meetup from 8pm onwards in the 1st floor Cafe Bar.
As usual the table will be marked with a few PINK balloons, just have a look around the bar, should be easy enough to spot.
As the movie is in opening week, it’s possible that tickets might be seated, just ask for somewhere in the middle and we’ll sort out seating arrangements in the bar.
After recent weeks lean towards big superhero type films, we’re moving to something on a lighter note with ‘Get Smart‘ in Cineworlds Cinema on Parnell St.
Based on the classic tv show of the same name, the big-screen movie version returns, this time with Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart, aka Agent 86, who works for CONTROL battling the forces of KAOS with the more-competent Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) at his side.
Movie starts at 9pm, and as ever - the meetup is 30mins (8.30pm) before hand in Cineworlds 1st Floor Cafe Bar. Please try to be early, as the last two outings we’ve missed late comers. Tickets for this movie can also be purchased online.
As always the meet up table will be marked by some PINK BALLOONS, so please have a look around the bar for a table with balloons.
So we’re back with another meet up this week, and after some critisim of the previous movie selection - I’ve gone with Hellboy II: The Golden Army, directed by Guillermo del Toro.
Movie starts at 7.40pm in Cineworld, and meetup is as usual 30 minutes beforehand (7.10pm) in the Cineworld 1st floor Bar. I would urge everyone to be as early as possible - I will be there before 7pm anyway.
As this is a new release, I advise to prebook tickets online, or in the cinema.
As usual, the meet up spot will be marked with some PINK balloons.
After the movie, we usually drop back to The Oval bar, but might make a switch this week to Panama Bar which has a special on cocktails on Thursday (2 for €8)
